Reading room
Reading room of SSL is area intended for reading daily press or the latest issues of magazines which are in the library collection. Reference collection of reading room includes individual issues of current year of newspapers and magazines. Issues of subscribed dailies are regularly changed to give users always the latest one, immediately after opening of library.

In reading room 28 titles of newspapers and 141 titles of magazines, other titles are located in store of periodicals and they can be brought on demand of reader. Information about all titles, which library subscribes in given year and records in library collection is provided in the list of arrived newspaper titles actualized every year.

Information-science centre
 
The State Scientific library is a partner of national project “The Creation of the network with information connection of scientific, academic and specialized libraries including their modernization” or briefly called “Information for innovations”. The project is co-funded from structural funds of European Union within the Sector operating programme Industry and Services, Measure 1.2 Support for construction and reconstruction of infrastructure.

Within the project the information-science centre was established, where we provide the access to electronic information resources (EIZ), which comprise full texts of encyclopedias, books, magazines and handbooks and conference materials from each fields of study. Remote access is available to every visitor of library who will be interested in these resources and who will be registered through NAVIGA at http://eiz.snk.sk. After registration it is necessary to visit Information-Science centre (or Department of library-information services) of library and sign the Contract about using directory, so-called user account, on secured server of Slovak National Library in Martin and about using services of system NAVIGA. Each registered user will be later on informed by electronic post about activating of remote access.

Within online access to EIZ library offers to persons interested in it the information about other electronic information resources with purchased licenses accessible only in the premises of library and freely available EIZ in which users can search also outside the premises of SSL.

Part of the Information-Science Centre are the search service, consultations services and regular methodical events implemented on every Thursday. The aim of methodical activities is to provide students as well as other interested persons with professional information about quoting of used documents and searching of sources in foreign abstract and full-text databases for needs of studying and writing different types of works. Visitors should report in advance on email address below (in the case of group, we accept max. 15-20 participants).

Study hall of Slavic studies

It was established in 2006 thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic for support of cultural activities as the part of Bibliographic department. It provides services to students, professional workers in the field of Slavonic studies (Ukrainian studies, Ruthenian studies, Russian studies, Belarusian studies, Polish studies, Bulgarian studies, Wendish studies etc.), literary history , political science, ethnology, as well as art historians, pedagogues and theologians dealing with Church-Slavonic texts.

In this study room, students have at their disposal newspapers, magazines, specialized monographs in all Slavonic languages, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks printed, but also audiovisual and electronic documents. Fiction cannot be found here. Study room further provides tutorial services, reprographic services, access to the internet, databases of books and articles as well as licensed and freely accessible electronic information sources, it enables users to write their own works on the selected computer stations in the text editor Open-Writer and then print them or download to USB device pursuant to the price list of library-information services.

Collection of Slavic study hall was enriched within the span of years by book presents, for example from Department of Slavic Studies (mostly Serbian and Polish literature), Department of Ukrainian studies (Russian and Ukrainian folkloric literature) and collections of book presents from private individuals – linguists, Slavists, historians and so on (Doc. PhDr. Andrej Kováč, CSc., Doc. Zuzana Hanudeľová, CSc., prof. PhDr. Mikuláš Mušinka, CSc., prof. A. Luzhnycký, PhD. from USA, Oksana Pelenská from Prague, Štefan Kruško, Doc. PhDr. Ľudovít Petraško, PhD., PhDr. Václav Dvořák, prof. PhDr. František Štraus, CSc.).

Study hall of Romani studies
 
Study hall of Romani studies has been established as part of the newly built unit of State Scientific Library in Prešov titled documentation-information centre of the Romani culture (DICRK). This workplace, which is the result of the implementation of national project having the same name Documentary and Information centre of the Romani culture supported from sources of European Union within the Operational programme Information Society, Priority axis 2, deals primarily with the collecting, processing, archiving and making accessible digital cultural objects of live Romani culture.

Study hall of Romani studies provides space for reference loans and study of documents covering a wide range of Romani literature from the library collections. In addition to these collections the interested will also have access to other new acquisitions from this field – prints, periodicals published in Slovakia and abroad, studies, surveys and publications. We will gradually extend and update the collection to offer you the latest publications.

The interested people will be provided by consultations services during the opening hours, possibly based on the individual deal with the employees of DICRK.

Study hall of historical prints
 
It was established in 2008 as part of the Bibliographic department. It provides services to students and professional workers in the field of history, archival science and auxiliary sciences of history, archeology, library and information science, literary history, political science, ethnology, as well as to scholars of fine art, pedagogues and religionists who deals with regional, Slovak or general history.

In study hall the users have at their disposal for studying there dictionaries, encyclopedias, statistics, periodicals, editions of sources, almanacs and monographs relating to the problems of history. Professional employees provide tutoring services, excursions, rooms for professional events, discussions and presentations of new book titles of given issue.

The study hall is equipped with computing and reprographic technology, provides reprographic services pursuant to the price list of library-information services, access to the internet, databases of other libraries, but also to the licensed and freely accessible electronic information services.

Part of the study hall services is regular event Learn to search and Bibliographic hour. Their aim is to increase by practicing the interest about self-reliant searching of available printed and electronic information sources for students and other interested people and to learn the lay and professional public to follow and respect ethics of quoting and appropriately use the norms ISO 690 and ISO 690-2. General study hall is the main study hall in the library offering loans of documents from its reference collection and loans of documents, which cannot be lent outside the premises of library.
